Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan have been struggling with unauthorized leaks of their recordings for months now, with Quan this week coming under fire for a leaked track that contained lyrics that referenced rape and elicited an apology from the MC. Yesterday, Alex Tumay, an engineer who has worked with both Quan and Thug in addition to work with Travi$ Scott, Drake, Birdman and Boosie Badazz, among others, took to Twitter to speak his mind on the issue.

The leak of Quan's "I Made It" sparked an internet backlash against the former Rich Gang MC, echoing the public sentiment that came at Rick Ross after his verse on "U.O.E.N.O." in 2013 included a line about molly that was interpreted as condoning date rape. After the song began spreading across the web, Quan released a statement, saying, “'I Made It’ was never intended to be released. The song was not lyrically what I wanted to say and was not completed. Without my knowledge, there was a studio leak of the recording. I apologize that it’s out; and I have asked my lawyer to pursue a cease and desist on the song immediately. To be clear, I would never condone rape.”

It's hardly the first time that Quan and/or Thug have been targeted with leaks; Thug's Barter 6 leaked a day earlier than his intended April release date, while a handful of Rich Homie Quan's songs, including one in particular that featured Drake, hit the internet ahead of schedule last December. Both MCs are working on their debut albums, due out later this year.
