Earlier this week, homophobic tweets Kevin Hart posted years ago surfaced online and after the resulting backlash, the comedian decided to step down from hosting the 2019 Oscars. Last night (Dec. 7), Snoop Dogg came to Kevin's defense and sent him words of encouragement in a video posted to Instagram.

"Don't trip, that ain't our kind of shit anyways," said Snoop, who recently received his star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. "Oscars? Yeah right, come do the BET Awards, cuh. Or Soul Train. They don't care. You a comedian, crackin' jokes... Really? Y'all want me to host it now? Nah I don't think so. I got shit to do... Kevin Hart, smoke a blunt. Tel the Academy to suck a dick or die trying. Fuck 'em. We still love you nigga."

For his part, Hart, who initially declined to apologize, explained his decision to step down from hosting the star-studded awards show on Twitter. He also offered an apology.

"I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's," Hart wrote. "this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past."

In a separate tweet, the comedian added, "I'm sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again."

The 91st Oscars Awards will take place on Feb. 24, 2019. Check out Snoop Dogg's video defending Kevin Hart below.
