Nicki Minaj Gets Really Emotional When Talking About Her Ex-Boyfriend Safaree Samuels With Power 105.1’s Angie Martinez

Yesterday (Dec. 17), Nicki Minaj stopped by Power 105.1 to chop it up with Angie Martinez about the recent release of her third studio album The Pinkprint, her breakup with long-time boyfriend Safaree Samuels, industry dating rumors, and more. In a surprising yet very understandable moment during the interview, the "Only" rapper gets extremely choked up when discussing the split with her best friend and lover of over 12 years, but hints she doesn't know if she's really single yet. Nicki admits the attachment is hard to break but at the same time, if it's meant to be it will be.

“My relationship was based off of love,” said Nicki. “And there still is nothing but love there. This is not some person I picked up off the street. This is somebody I grew up with. Like I don’t even know how I’m gonna function without that person in my life. I’ve never lived my life as a famous person without him.”

Not only was Jamaica, Queens rapper open and honest about her feelings for Samuels throughout her interview with Angie, but her vulnerability is also evident on the album. She pours her frustration and pain into her lyrics, allowing them to seep through each track from beginning to end. Nicki and Safaree appear to still be on good terms and she believes if it weren't for the industry, they would be married with children.

“I don’t think people realize it’s not just a relationship or breakup. That was a humongous part of my life,” she told Angie. “It is something that I am dealing with publicly and it’s not easy. I’m also not gonna joke about it or try to disrespect him and try to act like he didn’t mean the world to me and still doesn’t mean the world to me. I’m just figuring it out.”
