Listen to Fetty Wap, “Boomin”

Fetty Wap doesn't even know what a one-hit wonder is. Though the 2015 XXL Freshman class is full of rappers who have already dropped acclaimed, substantive records (Vince Staples, Shy Glizzy) and have a carefully cultivated buzz online (Raury, GoldLink), no one has a signature song quite like "Trap Queen." Still, the New Jersey up-and-comer is pushing forward, trying to recreate that kind of excitement. The Drake-assisted remix to "My Way" will certainly keep Fetty's name ringing through the SEO filters, but "Boomin" sounds like a true follow-up. Though it appears to be a loose track uploaded unceremoniously, "Boomin" rattles like the best kind of headache. The construction is simple: rolling hi-hats, a menacing piano line, Fetty's signature warble. The question are straightforward ("Fucking with my money, is you stupid?"); so are the threats ("My bro will shoot you"). "Started from the bottom, hallelujah!"
