Lil Wayne fans know the story of Weezy accidentally shooting himself with a gun at the age of 12. But now, it's been revealed that the accident was actually a suicide attempt, and he plans to open up about it on a new song off of his upcoming Tha Carter V album.

In an interview with Billboard for its Sept. 15 issue, it's revealed that the album's outro track will find Wayne admitting that the incident was actually an attempted suicide and not an accident like he's previously detailed. Built around a sample of British singer Sampha's "Indecision," Weezy will reveal he tried to take his own life after his mother told him he would no longer be able to rap.

Young Money President Mack Maine revealed to the publication that Wayne reached a point in his life that he felt he needed to be honest about the incident. “He just told me one day that he was ready to address it now. Just being an adult, reaching a level of maturity and comfort where it’s like, ‘I want to talk about this because I know a lot of people out here might be going through that.’”

The upcoming song was reportedly on the original Carter V tracklist but following the suicides of designer Kate Spade and chef Anthony Bourdain earlier this year, Weezy added new lyrics this summer.

Wayne has started to open up about the incident in the past, rapping on Solange's song "Mad." "And when I attempted suicide, I didn't die/I remember how mad I was that day/Man, you gotta let it go before it get all up in the way," he raps. This is, however, the first time he's revealed the reason for attempting suicide.

The rapper's long-awaited Carter V is now slated for a fall release and will be his first album to not feature the Cash Money Records logo after he left the label in June.
