Lawyers for the man accused of shooting Lil Wayne's tour bus said his client has no motive to hurt Wayne. TMZ reports that the lawyers for Jimmy Winfrey, aka PeeWee Roscoe, acknowledged their client is affiliated with Young Thug, who is also in a current rap beef with Lil Wayne, but the feud hasn't escalated to anything physical. Winfrey's lawyers downplayed the beef and compared it to sports rivalry. "Clearly, the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons are rivals because they are fighting every year to win the same division: the NFC South. Yet, this does not provide a motive for Drew Brees to kill or maim Matt Ryan," said Winfrey's lawyers. Jimmy Winfrey is currently behind bars and awaiting trial for the shooting that happened in April.

On April 26 Wayne’s tour bus was shot at as the rapper and his entourage were leaving an Atlanta club. Jimmy Winfrey, who was reportedly Thug's road manager, surrendered himself to authorities in Cobb County, Georgia in June.  In mid-July, Birdman and Young Thug were named as co-conspirators in an in an indictment. Birdman has gone on record and denied any involvement in the shooting but Winfrey said in court in August that “[Birdman's] financial dispute with [Lil Wayne] is what ultimately led to the shooting…[Birdman] should be held liable as a party to the crime.” Winfrey is facing charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, possession of a firearm by a felon and criminal gang activity. Winfrey has previously been arrested for drug possession in Florida.
