Hip-Hop Reacts to Kendrick Lamar Winning a Pulitzer Prize
Kendrick Lamar is making monumental history after his Damn. album has officially won a Pulitzer Prize, making him the first rapper to do so. Yesterday (April 16), it was announced that the Compton rapper's latest studio LP, which dropped last year, earned the prestigious prize, and now, hip-hop is sharing their enthusiasm and support.
While a Pulitzer Prize is usually given to those in the fields of newspapers, magazine, online journalism and literature, K. Dot marks as the first non-classical or jazz work to get an award in music. Tons of rappers and figures in hip-hop culture are sharing their congratulatory and supportive messages for Kendrick, including the likes of Logic, Busta Rhymes, Wale, Rapsody, Common, his fellow TDE signees and many more.
Regardless of any possible negative opinions that may be out there, it's hard to question the impact of Kendrick's voice and music. Damn. has won multiple prestigious titles over the last year, including the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Album, a Juno Award for International Album of the Year and more.
