Will Smith Calls Donald Trump an Embarrassment to America
Will Smith continues his promotional tour for Suicide Squad, which opened in the U.S. this past Friday (Aug. 5), with a recent press conference in Dubai. The above video comes courtest of the Associated Press and shows Smith commenting on a number of subjects unrelated to the film, most notably Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
While the question that prompted Smith's response isn't included, the actor is to the point and clear with his feelings toward the businessman turned politician. "As painful as it is to hear Donald Trump talk and as embarrassing as it is as an American to hear him talk, I think it’s good," Smith says. "We get to hear it, we get to know who people are and now we get to cleanse it out of our country."
Trump's campaign continues to lose ground to Hillary Clinton as the GOP nominee says one misguided quote after another. Smith as well comments on the perception American's have on Islam, saying, "In terms of Islamophobia in America, for me, that's why it’s important to show up. I’m in Dubai and I’m having fun and I’m showing pictures. Hey, doesn’t look like they hate me, does it?"
Smith has been vocal about social and political issues in the past, most recently the lack of diversity at this past year's Oscars. In December of last year, the actor said that "If people keep saying all the crazy kinds of stuff they’ve been saying on the news lately about walls and Muslims, they’re going to force me into the political arena...I mean, I gotta be the President. Come on! What else would I run for?”
His comments above sound more reasoned and carefully worded than what Trump has been saying lately anyway.
