The 2020 Grammy Awards, have come to a close, and as it comes to hip-hop, the theme may have been "first-timers." A good amount of rappers who have never taken home a Grammy before had their moment in the sun, all of them being recognizable names. Roddy Ricch, a 2019 XXL Freshman, got his first Grammy alongside his late friend Nipsey Hussle for their song "Racks In The Middle." In addition to that J. Cole and 21 Savage took Best Rap Song Grammys home for their collaboration "A lot" and Lil Nas X won Best Pop Duo/GrouP Performance and Best Music video for the Billy Ray Cyrus-assisted "Old Town Road" remix. Tyler, The Creator finally got a Grammy (Best Rap Album, IGOR), as he said he would ten years ago.

But even with all the highs, Tyler still kept it real and expressed his distaste with the Grammys and their voting process. He made it clear that while he appreciates his Best Rap Album Grammy, he had another genre in mind. 'Why can't we just be in pop?," he shared, after winning and wondering why black artists always get pigeonholed into "urban" categories. I felt like half of me feels like the rap nomination was a backhanded compliment." Through it all, he remains grateful while getting his true feelings across: Another half of me is very grateful that the art that I made can be acknowledged on a level like this when I don't do the radio stuff." Well said. Check out Tyler and all of the other rappers who won big in the gallery below.
