After being released from prison more than a year ago, Tru Life has finally found a new record label to call home. The New York rapper confirmed to XXL that he has signed with Future's Freebandz label.

The 41-year-old rapper celebrated the signing with a post on Instagram, sharing a photo himself and Future and writing, "@future nothing bigger than the bird. #freebandz #mogultree." In a separate post, Tru Life wrote, "Today is a new beginning , I am proud to announce my new deal with Sony Epic and Free Bandz. When everyone else turned their backs on me. My brother @future was the only one who stepped up."

Tru Life has discussed his relationship with Future in the past. During a 2016 interview with The Breakfast Club, the rapper revealed his relationship with Future goes back to when he was known as Meathead. "I go back with him from Meathead, I don't even know Future... We grew up together, man, in the Dungeon [Family]. Me and his cousin, Rico Wade, was real tight."

Originally signed to JAY-Z's Roc-La-Familia Records, Tru Life's career came to a halt in 2011, when he was charged with murder and weapons possession after a 2009 incident that left 20-year-old Christopher Guerrero dead. The rapper, who dropped the track "Bang Bang" earlier this year, ended up pleading guilty to gang assault and was sentenced to eight years in prison. He ended up serving more than six years of his sentence and was released in April of 2016.

In an interview with XXL last year, the rapper revealed he was working on a new album.

"I’m working on an album. I know people want so much from me," he said. "They expect so much from me. They’re like, 'Right now, right now.' But, they don’t understand it’s not so easy to come home from doing eight years and jump into the studio and everything be about music, music, music. Especially when you got kids and a life and your life has been so torn apart by being gone for eight years and you’re coming home and picking up all those pieces, you know? It’s just not that easy of a transition."
