Actress Tracee Ellis Ross Pays Homage to Cardi B and Childish Gambino at 2018 American Music Awards
Actress Tracee Ellis Ross is hosting the American Music Awards for the second year in a row and her opening dance may just be the best performance of the night thus far.
The Black-ish actress kicked off the celebratory evening Tuesday night (Oct. 9) by dancing to Cardi B's breakout single "Bodak Yellow" in a spicy black number while wearing grills with her initials in diamonds. Moments later, Childish Gambino's "This Is America" started playing and Ms. Ross began recreating the moves Donald Glover executed in the song's visual, including 2018 XXL Freshman BlocBoy JB's popular Shoot dance.
She also performed as several Beyonce songs played, including "Apeshit" by Bey and Jay-Z.
Cardi B was the first artist at the ceremony to take home an AMA tonight. The "I Like It" rhymer took home the award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist, which should come to the surprise of no one given her spectacular 2018.
About an hour later the Bronx rapper took the stage to debut her worldwide television performance of "I Like It" with J Balvin and Bad Bunny. Cardi took a cue from Tracee and broke out the salsa as the set progressed.
