The Black Opera Tackle Gentrification in “Beautiful City” Video
The Black Opera release the video to "Beautiful City" off their latest album African America. The video, which is directed by KEEMO, tackles gentrification, a growing issue that's happening around the States.
"The video demonstration for 'Beautiful City' is a depiction of city pride, finding beauty in the smallest details, and what gentrification can do to a city," said Magestik Legend (of The Black Opera). "But in the bigger scheme of things, it's more about the people you love in whatever city you call home. That's the true beauty of a city."
With race being such a spark-plug topic during current times of our nation, The Black Opera seeks solace on its powerful new album African America. Magestik Legend and Jamall Bufford delivers the group's most personal and expressive album to date, reflecting the frustrations of a people who struggle to find a true sense of home and belonging.
Their inspiration for the album comes at the right time. "At its core, African America is the story of a people that feel lost, a people that don’t feel welcome in their place of birth. This is where Black Americans currently exist; a place where the laws and law enforcement don’t seem to serve or protect them. African America can be viewed as an actual plea to build a new home, or just to relocate mentally," the description reads in a press release.
The dup were featured on CNN and spoke about why new Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, is bad for inner cities.
"We've seen what's going on with DeVos right now, and what she stands for as far as education is definitely not going to be positive for the inner cities," Jamall Bufford (of The Black Opera) told CNN. "We need money to go into these public schools and not more money taken away."
