These days, it's really pretty hard to overstate the power of the internet, so when a petition for Quavo to sing the national anthem began circulating the web, it was inevitable that a news outlet would eventually ask the Migos member about taking on the task. That outlet was TMZ, who recently pulled up on the rapper to ask him about possibly remaking the timeless track.

Quavo is open to remaking the anthem, but he definitely wants it to reflect the times we live in today. “There’s a lot going behind the national anthem,” Quavo tells TMZ. “I would love to do it, but I wanna do a 2017 national anthem for both people and all races. Something that’s representing now. Something that representing the modern day national anthem.”

Quavo's onboard with remaking the song, as long as he's “got with some good musicians" and can "write something very strong and powerful" for the remake. Sounds like a plan to us.

The bit about there being "a lot going [on] behind the National Anthem" is in all likelihood a reference to a controversial protest waged by former San Francisco quarter back Colin Kaepernick last year. The athlete now finds himself jobless after spending all of last season kneeling as opposed to standing as the national anthem played before games last season.

Kaepernick's protest has now forced people to at least consider re-examining the meaning of the American flag and the national anthem. While some argue it was a move designed to divide rather than unite, plenty of others would say that a divide already existed.

With a joint project with Travis Scott on the way and Culture 2 possibly coming this fall, Quavo's got a lot on this plate. But a lot of fans want Quavo to sing the national anthem— 7,726 to be exact. Sign the petition at
