Nicki Minaj May Delay ‘Queen’ Album Release to Clear Tracy Chapman Sample
Nicki Minaj's long-awaited Queen album is set to release on Aug. 10 but a new tweet from the Young Money rapper suggests the project could be hit with another delay as Minaj tries to get a sample cleared.
According to a tweet from Minaj, the upcoming album contains a song that features an uncleared Tracy Chapman sample, as well as a guest spot from one of "the greatest rappers of all time." In the now-deleted tweet, Nicki hit up the singer and asked, "Tracy Chapman, can you please hit me."
The "Chun-Li" rapper also shared then deleted another tweet where she revealed she would be spilling the tea on the track. "Y'all gon get mad tea on that song too," she tweeted. "I'm high key lookin out for y'all chile. It's sum GOODT TEA TOO. I'd be willing to sacrifce one more week for this tea! But I haven't decided. Ugh. Love you."
After deleting the tweet, Nicki shared a poll but left out the details about the tea. In the new poll, the rapper asked her fans if she should keep the Aug. 10 release date of Queen and lose the record featuring the uncleared sample or push back the album one week and get the sample cleared.
"Since I may have asked it wrong. vote. You guys can only imagine how much this means to me. It’s such a perfect body of work love you. Long time," she wrote.
Chapman, who is best known for the hit songs "Fast Car" and "Give Me One Reason," has yet to respond to Minaj and doesn't have an official Twitter account.
Up next for Minaj, the "Barbie Tingz" artist will be joining Future on the upcoming NickiHndrxxx Tour. The trek, which kicks off on Sept. 21 in Baltimore, will also now feature 6ix9ine, who recently collaborated with Minaj on the song "Fefe."
