Nicki Minaj Gets Key to Queens, New York
There are a slew of awards on Nicki Minaj's lengthy list of achievements throughout her career, but she just received what is possibly one of her biggest yet. Before her NBA Awards performance last night (June 27), the "No Frauds" rapper was honored with the key to Queens, New York earlier in the day during a ceremony in her home city.
During the ceremony, borough president Melinda Katz presented the key to the city to the Head Barb, with a plaque that read "Key to the City/From the office of Melinda Katz, The Queens Borough President/ Presented to Onika Tanya Maraj/PKA Nicki Minaj." The plaque also mentioned that she would be receiving the key due to her "outstanding career achievements in music."
If you recall, Minaj is originally from Port of Spain, Trinidad, where she was born, but moved with her family to Jamaica, Queens when she was five years old. She was raised in the borough's neighborhood, and has represented hard for it throughout her career.
Over the past few months, a multitude of rappers have been receiving the keys to their cities, including the likes of Big Sean, who was honored in Detroit, and Drake, who was presented a key to Toronto. A couple of weeks ago, Fabolous was presented the key to Brooklyn, where he was accompanied by his family, including his two sons.
