Meek Mill Respects Jay-Z’s Money Phone Line on ‘4:44′ Album
JAY-Z's 4:44 album is still seeing high praise from the music community, and the messages on the project are hitting some of our favorite artists hard. While Meek Mill is focusing on the release of his upcoming Wins & Losses album, the "Whatever You Need" rapper gave his candid thoughts on Hov's new album, revealing some of the lessons he learned after listening to it.
Meek sat down with DJ Scream at The Beat during his Atlanta visit, where he discussed a slew of topics, including his upcoming album, as well as what he learned from 4:44. Scream slid into the topic by asking Meek what the project means to him now that he's heard it and digested it.
"It means growth to me," Meek stated. "He definitely motivated me. I learned from the CD."
Meek then dove into some of the things he took away from the album, saying that he didn't think Hov went too far with his money phone reference on "The Story of O.J."
"Nah, I don't think it was too much, but do what you do," Meek explains. "Our jeans is tighter than Jay-Z's jeans. We wear Off White... Hov rocking Tom Ford. It's just two different things. At some point, you want to put some time... at some point you want to put the money down and invest. Get some credit. What he said, for real. Don't never get it mixed up. You could get real reality rap. You might go look on Instagram and see Meek Mill got six foreigns. Meek Mill got the credit too. We ain't put that part on Instagram. He just teaching people the game. You running around with $100,000 in your pocket, for what? You got the money to your ear, for what? I like it because it's a good picture for me. I'm talking to Benjamins. I remember when Benjamins never answered my calls. [laughs] I could pick up and talk to him whenever I want to now."
Also during the sit-down conversation, the Philadelphia MC speaks on the artists that he's feeling right now, which includes members of his own Dream Chasers.
"I'm feeling T.K. A young kid named T.K. Moneybagg Yo. He already poppin' already," he lists. "Kur. He from Philly. Young artist coming up. It's a lot."
The interview also hears Meek explaining why he doesn't like doing interviews, and how he prefers to not share his personal life matters to the media or on social networks, even if some things do get out.
