Lids Fitted Class Logo

What are you known for in the fitted hat community? I am known for being a plant person, so I have my pins, and my hats are very plant-themed. So much of my personality is plant-themed and earth tones. My favorite color is yellow, but I just gravitate towards everything growing.

How did you get into fitted hats? One of my friends was into it and he had asked me to go with him for one of the releases for a hat. Seeing the community and everything, I felt like it was very reminiscent of the sneaker community. Having friends in different groups or aspects of your life is really important, and I felt like that kind of filled a community space for me in there.

What makes a great fitted hat? I love classic, like under visor color. So, a gray or green, but I also like colors that kind of complement each other without being too loud or overpowering. I like it where it’s an addition to an outfit.

What’s the most valuable hat you have? I would say between my first ever hat—I have it in a shadow box—and I think my favorite one might be [a Los Angeles] Angels hat that Ty Mathis a.k.a. [Regularolty] created, and that was one of my favorite hats because it was a khaki color hat with a navy brim, a gray under visor, and then the Anaheim Angels logo was navy, gold and a little bit of like silver. It felt like a classic Yankee where I can wear so many outfits with it.

Why are fitted hats important to fashion and personal style? With a hat, it’s such an addition to an outfit, like a scarf, that it kind of brings like a personality. It gives you a little bit of lure, being a little mysterious. You don’t know what’s under the brand or whatever the case is.

How have fitteds played a role in hip-hop culture? I feel like I have not seen hip-hop culture without a hat. It gives people an idea of representation of their city. It makes people very proud of where they come from, and where they are. So, between seeing like T.I. with his hat always [tilted] or seeing like the Jay-Z albums and then seeing Dipset putting the bandana around.
