Declaring yourself "The biggest plug in Atlanta" is a lofty claim, but if there's anyone who can snatch the title for himself, it might be Young Scooter. The Zone 6 veteran--he reminds you less than 10 minutes into the mixtape--just dropped his 8th solo mixtape, Jug Season. The 19-song set is a who's-who of Southern rap right now, with special attention to the home of the Hawks and Falcons. Scooter calls in favors from Future, Gucci Mane and Baton Rouge's Boosie Badazz, among others. The product is an engrossing listen--sprawling, sure, but unwavering in its swagger and menace.

Sporting production from nearly all of rap's heavy hitters (DJ Mustard, Zaytoven, C4 and more all pop up here), Jug Season is certified for any sound system you can throw it in. Scooter is more than capable of carrying the relentless run of beats; the effect is a record that feels much shorter than its bloated running time.  Standouts include the foreboding "Real OGs" and "Pots And Stove," where Boosie recounts how he honed his, ahem, culinary skills. Scooter even finds himself uncharacteristically contemplative on "In Loving Memory," which rejects the standard template for tribute songs, favoring something that sounds like a Halloween fever dream.

Scooter has previously released collaborative mixtapes with Gucci Mane and Cartel MGM. Guwop has been instrumental in the younger rapper's career, taking him under the 1017 Brick Squad banner and featuring him prominently on mixtapes like Trap God and its sequels. The pair reportedly shared a jail cell for a brief time in 2013 while they were locked up for probation violations.
