Lil Kim Says Remy Ma’s “Shether” Song Is Comparable to Drake’s “Back to Back”
Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj don't exactly get along, and Kim recently performed in concert alongside Remy Ma, who dropped her vicious "Shether" diss last weekend. With that in mind, Kim being asked a question about her beef with Nicki and Nicki's subsequent drama with Remy was all but inevitable.
In a recent interview, that inevitability happened. During the interview, Kim brushed off the idea of her maintaining any beef with the Young Money rapper along with rumors that she'd be putting together a sequel diss track with Remy. "We all know the situation that’s going on with Remy and ol’ girl," Kim explained, refusing to even mention Nicki's name.
She continued, "That’s their situation and I have nothing to do with that. They have a rumor out there like, 'Kim is gonna do a diss track with Remy.' First of all, let me tell you this. Number one: y’all giving ol’ girl too much credit. I’m not even thinking about that. I’m not even thinking about ol’ girl! I’m so far past that. That’s never on my mind. Ever."
Elsewhere in the interview, Kim continued to praise "Shether," going as far as to compare it to "Back to Back," the scathing diss track Drake directed at Nicki's then-boyfriend, Meek Mill, about two years ago.
"Why would I need to come together for that? I mean, I’m into the music and I’m speaking musically wise—the song is just hard, period," she said. "Just like [Drake's] 'Back to Back' was hard—just good hip-hop music. But I got nothing to do with that. When I had my situation and my situation came up, I handled my business. If anybody comes to me, if ol’ girl came to me, I gonna give them the business. That’s just the bottom line of it. So if it ain’t coming my way, I ain’t got nothing to do with it. Me and Remy is cool. I hate when media do that. That’s the thing."
While it's hard to say "Shether" and "Back to Back" share any stylistic similarities, it's safe to say they are both great diss records. You can check out how hip-hop responded to Remy's "Shether" here.
