A Brief History of Kanye West and President Trump’s Relationship

Kanye started off semi-flaming The Donald's hair on the 2010 track "So Appalled," featuring Jay-Z, Pusha-T and Cyhi The Prynce.

'Ye kicks off his verse on the classic cut with the lines, "I'm so appalled, Spalding, balled/Balding, Donald Trump taking dollars from y'all/Baby you're fired, your girlfriend hired."

Kanye West shocked the world when he announced his intentions to run for president in 2020 at the end of his Video Vanguard Award acceptance speech at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. When asked about the announcement, then Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he is hopeful that Yeezy will actually make true on his words.

"That's very interesting. I wonder who gave him that idea?" Trump told Rolling Stone. "He's actually a different kind of a person than people think. He's a nice guy. I hope to run against him someday."

Kanye West's controversial "Famous" video drops, featuring mannequins of naked celebrities including Kim Kardashian, George Bush, Anna Wintour, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, Ray J, Amber Rose, Caitlyn Jenner, Bill Cosby and Donald Trump.

Kanye West's Saint Pablo Tour featured nightly rants. During a stop in San Jose, Calif., in November 2016, 'Ye went on about his love for Trump.

“I told y’all I didn’t vote, right? But if I would’ve voted, I would’ve voted for Trump,” Kanye says. “There’s nonpolitical methods to speaking that I like, that I feel were very futuristic. And that style, and that method of communication, has proven that it can beat a politically correct way of communication. And I fuck with that. I actually think that his approach was absolutely genius. Because it fucking worked!”

He adds, "I hate the fact that because I’m a celebrity, everybody told me not to say that I loved the debates. I loved his approach."

A few days later, West was hospitalized after suffering a mental breakdown.

Shortly after his release from the hospital, Kanye took a meeting with President-elect Trump at Trump Tower. West later explained the much-maligned meeting via Twitter: "I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues. These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago. I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change. #2024"

A few months after their initial meeting, Kanye appeared to be backing away from his support of No. 45, removing all of the previously posted pro-Trump tweets from his timeline (including an image of Trump's autographed Time magazine cover).

According to sources, Kanye was unhappy with President Trump's actions throughout his early days in office.

Following a social media hiatus, Kanye returned to Twitter in a major way. Among his most notable posts are tweets in support of President Trump.

"You don't have to agree with trump but the mob can't make me not love him," 'Ye wrote. "We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don't agree with everything anyone does. That's what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought."

Trump later thanks Kanye for the shout out tweeting, "Thank you, Kanye. Very cool!"

Kanye later doubles down, expressing his love for Trump to Hot 97's Ebro Darden.

Just when you thought the bromance couldn't get any deeper, Kanye popped up in a photo rocking a Donald Trump campaign hat, alongside Lyor Cohen and Lucian Grainge. In a separate tweet, Kanye showed off the MAGA hat that was autographed by Trump.

Smitten with all the endorsements, Trump reportedly considers inviting Kanye to the White House for another meeting.

There are a lot of takeaways from Kanye's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but Yeezy was surely not backing down from his support of Trump. During the interview, he speaks on wanting to work with the president's proposed Space Force and building up enough confidence to wear his Make America Great Again hat. However, he is momentarily stumped when asked why he's an advocate for Trump when he bashed George Bush Jr. earlier.

The following day, Trump thanks Kanye on Twitter for telling the truth.

Kanye West served as a guest performer on the 44th season premiere episode of Saturday Night Live and used some of his stage time to rant about advocating for Trump despite being "bullied" for it.

The spectacle becomes a trending topic and Trump uses the opportunity to thank Kanye once again for leading the charge.

Kanye West appeared on TMZ to talk about the recent uproar that he's caused. In yet another controversial interview, West says he tried to get former NFL quarterback turned activist Colin Kaepernick to take a meeting with Trump to work out their difference in opinions.

"I've been callin' Colin this morning, reachin' him, so I can bring Colin to the White House," West tells TMZ's Harvey Levin. "We can remove that 'sons of bitches' statement and we can be on the same page."

Kanye did most of the talking in a broadcasted meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office, which found the rapper advocating for jobs to be kept in the United States, sharing that Trump and his MAGA hats make Kanye feel like Superman and ending the meeting by hugging Trump while members of the press (and viewers around the world) watched.
