Gucci Mane Tells Trevor Noah His Time in Prison Was a Vicious Cycle
On Monday (Sept. 18) night, Gucci Mane stopped by the Daily Show to discuss his new book, The Autobiography of Gucci Mane.
While speaking with host Trevor Noah, the rapper was asked about his time in prison. Gucci called his life in and out of jail a vicious cycle, but said when he was facing 20 to 30 years in prison, that's when he knew he had to change. "It forced me to be like, 'You know, that's it. I'm changing my lifestyle. I'm changing my choices,'" he said. "I'ma reflect on my life and see what I did wrong."
The "Curve" rapper went on to say the person he is today is a "conscious effort" of him trying to change his life. "This is what you get, right here," he said.
The Atlanta artist also opened up about his addiction to lean, which he said has taken the lives of many greats. "I could've been one of the artists that don't wake up the next day," he said. "I don't want that in my future."
Elsewhere in the interview, Gucci discussed his engagement to Keyshia Ka'Oir, calling her the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. The rapper revealed his public proposal at the Atlanta Hawks game in 2016 was a last-minute decision, although he had already had the ring for a week.
Gucci recently revealed his upcoming album, Mr. Davis, would be pushed back from its Sept. 22 release date to October. Speaking with MTV News, the rapper said he wanted to move the album to Oct. 17 because he likes the date, but had to move it again because it shares the same date as his wedding.
"Then, I started [thinking], October the 17th, but that’s the day I get married," he said. "I love putting music out on 10-17. I feel like, it’d even make the whole wedding more powerful, because that’s like, my national holiday! In my mind, it’s coming out 10-17, but I’m dropping it early, Friday the 13th.”
