Drake, The Weeknd and More Win at 2017 Juno Awards

Drake and The Weeknd are two of Canada's brightest stars, so it shouldn't be too surprising to learn they both won big at the 2017 Juno Awards.

Drizzy, who hosted the Canadian awards show back in 2011, took home the trophy for International Achievement Award after a year that saw Views get released. For his part, The Weeknd's Starboy won the Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, besting Daniel Caesar's Pilgrim's Paradise, dvsn's Sept. 5,
PARTYNEXTDOOR'S PARTYNEXTDOOR 3 and Tanika Charles' Soul Run in the process. Drizzy and The Weeknd were both on tour, so they weren't able to personally collect their trophies.

Drake and Weeknd may be the biggest things to come out of Toronto in a long time, but they were far from being the only stories at the 2017 Juno Awards. The awards show also saw the rise of Jazz Cartier continue, as the rapper's Hotel Paranoia beat out Belly's Another Day in Paradise, Tory Lanez's I Told You,
Tasha the Amazon's Die Every Day and Drizzy's Views to win the award for Rap Recording of the Year.

Kaytranada, who's seemingly been everywhere in the early going of 2017, took home Electronic Album of the Year . His project 99.9% beat out Holy Fuck's Congrats, A Tribe Called Red's, We Are the Halluci Nation, Bob Moses' Days Gone By and Harrison's Checkpoint Titanium to get that W.

While not too many members of Canada's hip-hop community have achieved true global stardom, it's clear they're doing some big things, and we look forward to seeing more from them in 2017.
