A new type of MC is emerging out of Charlotte, North Carolina named BankRoll Bird, a multi-dimensional rapper/singer who marries tough, real life bars with a subtly Auto-Tuned melodic approach that puts him somewhere in the area of a smoother, more falsetto-voiced street rhymer. Today, the buzzing Southern MC drops off the visual to his latest track "True Story," which follows his life as a young teenager getting into trouble and mischief, robbing bodegas and running from shop owners while trying to avoid the life of a street hustler.

The video was shot by Slick Jackson and TrifeDrew, featuring the 21-year-old MC rapping on a neighborhood basketball court and seeing a younger version of himself through a mirror as he rolls through his old hood. Over a light, xylophone-infused production, Bird spits about trying to step around the traps of growing up in Charlotte, pushing back against the established rite of passage that takes a street kid into hustling and dealing. The video is the title track off his new eight-song EP, True Story, which he released via SoundCloud earlier this year.
