YBS Skola Sentenced to Five Years in Prison for Gun, Drug Charges
YBS Skola got the news he was dreading earlier this week. On Tuesday (June 4), he was sentenced to five years in prison without parole in relation to a March 2018 arrest.
Skola, born Dajuan Cannady, was charged with seven counts in total including firearm and drug trafficking with a felony conviction and possession of narcotics in the 2018 arrest. After reportedly spending the last 16 months on house arrest, his fate was sealed by a judge who handed down the half-decade sentence during this week's hearing for his case, reports The Baltimore Sun.
After apparently receiving the bad news, Skola addressed his pending jail stint on Instagram. "If you niggas counting me out, just know, I'm talking 'bout minor setback for a major comeback. I'm coming back better than I left, ya dig?" he said. "I'ma go up in this joint, get my weight up, get my waves up. Sharpen my knowledge up."
He captioned the video, "Minor setback for a major comeback, go get my new album to hear the #truth."
The prison sentence has been something that has been on the 24-year-old rapper's mind. On the 2019 track, "Issues," he raps about his anxiety spitting, "I'm still riding with the pistol/Hoping that my charges get dismissed soon."
Despite his incarceration, the DMV rapper went ahead with the release of his new Truth album on Friday (June 7). The offering features 15 solo cuts. It is the follow-up to Only Hope 3, which dropped in December 2018.
