Police believe shots fired on Tuesday (Aug. 14) near the Brooklyn set of Uncle Murda's "Get the Strap" music video were related to beef between 6ix9ine and Casanova, an NYPD spokesperson told XXL on Wednesday (Aug. 15).

An unidentified man fired the shots on Tuesday morning a half a block away from the Greenpoint waterfront location on West St. where Uncle Murda was filming the video for his upcoming song "Get the Strap," which features 50 Cent, Casanova and 6ix9ine.

Tekashi and Cas have a contentious history. They repeatedly exchanged disses online earlier this year and their respective crews got into an altercation that reportedly resulted in one shot fired in a hallway at the Barclay's Center before April's boxing match between Adrien Broner and Jessie Vargas.

The NYPD also reportedly investigated an affiliate of 6ix9ine in connection to shots fired hours before the boxing match near the set of a Casanova music video shoot in Brooklyn. At the time, Cas denied being targeted by gunfire.

However, the two rappers appeared to have resolved their squabbles in May. In a video posted on 6ix9ine's Instagram and later deleted, they stood together and teased a future collaboration.

"There was never no beef, just a misunderstanding," 6ix9ine said in the video. "We here, we strong. New York strong and we on top. And song coming soon."

XXL's NYPD source said the conflict has actually escalated in recent months. "[Their beef] seems to have extended beyond the rappers and to their crews," he said.

The source also said that subsequent acts of violence have occurred between the crews and not been reported, and referred to the ongoing investigation as a "top priority" for the department.

Earlier on Wednesday, Casanova turned himself in to New York police for an unrelated arrest warrant regarding an alleged assault by the "Set Trippin" rapper on a woman in a Manhattan diner on Aug. 6.

Tekashi also has outstanding business with New York law enforcement. The district attorney's office recently recommended he register as a sex offender and be sentenced to one to three years in prison for his violations of a 2015 plea agreement for a sex crime involving an underage girl.
