Travis Scott Drops “Pick Up the Phone” With Young Thug and Quavo
Update 2:
After clearing up the official song release with Lyor Cohen of 300, Travis Scott and Young Thug's "Pick Up the Phone" is now available on Apple Music and TIDAL.
Update 1:
Travis Scott has vented on Twitter about 300 Ent. trying to prevent him from putting the single out and consequentially wiping the record from his Soundcloud. Read his tweets below.
Original Story:
After fighting with his record label 300, who apparently refused to put this out as a single, Travis Scott releases the full CDQ of "Pick Up the Phone" featuring Young Thug and Quavo. Mike Dean definitely altered the beat from the original leak, but this is fire. Hear it above.
In a note on the Soundcloud link, Travis explained a bit of what he went through to get the single out.
"THIS SONG WAS SUPPOSE TO GO TO ITUNES BUT LABELS ARE MAKEING THIS MORE COMPLICATED THAN IT ACTUALLY NEED TO BE THIS WAS GONA BE MY SINGLE BUT NOW IM GIVING A WAY FOR THE KIDS," he wrote. "P.S. THEY MIGHT TAKE THIS DOWN CAUSE THEY DONT WANT KIDS TO EAT. FUCK IT GOOD NIGHT. BIRDS IN THE TRAP SING MCKNIGHT SOON."
If that's true, hats off to Travis - he knows his fans have been fiending for this record, so unless this is a coordinated stunt with 300 and Epic, it's a pretty badass move. Mike Dean had been giving fans updates on Snapchat as Travis travelled to New York this past week for the final mixdown. Vinylz and Frank Dukes produced the track, while the end of the song has some signature Dean synth stabs. Allen Ritter is also credited as an additional producer.
Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight is supposed to be his next project before Astroworld.
In addition to the song, Travis also unveiled a new line of merch with letter jackets, hoodies, hats, tees, socks and more. Peep the collection at his website right here.
