2010: At the height of his music career, Lil Wayne was arrested in 2007 and charged with criminal possession of a firearm and marijuana. After serving eight months of a year-long sentence at New York’s Rikers Island jail, Lil Wayne was released on November 4, 2010 for good behavior. Today marks seven years since Weezy’s release.

Even while incarcerated, Lil Tunechi continued to stay present in the rap world. He made headlines for having contraband, specifically an MP3 player, while in prison, receiving special treatment from guards who were fans of his. His Young Money signee, Drake, still a rising star at the time, would mention Wayne in his raps while his boss was in the pen. Fans and friends of Wayne started the ‘Weezy Thanx You’ website where Wayne could post letters to fans letting them know his daily routine and how he was doing.

On the morning of Nov. 4, footage of Wayne surfaced famously leaving Riker’s Island in a Phantom, off on probation and ready to regain his rap game supremacy.
