"Codeine Crazy" typifies the lean-drenched, Auto-Tune-laced flows that have helped make Future legendary. The thing is, the instrumental for the track almost went to someone else. TM88 revealed as much in a recent interview.

During a revealing conversation where the producer discusses the first beat he ever sold, "XO Tour Llif3" and his come-up in the industry, TM88 explains he originally made the beat for Hendrix's classic Monster track for none other than Nicki Minaj.

"I really made [the beat for 'Codeine Crazy'] for Nicki. 'Cause she was working on her album, and I was like, I wanted to give her beats so bad, but I ended up not getting them to her," TM88 said. That's when Future came calling.

"Future called, I think it was the next day or the next two days, and he was like, 'Bro, I need some beats. I'm going in. I need you,' woopty woop. I was like, fuck it, [I] sent the whole pack to him," TM88 says. "Ended up getting a lot of stuff on Monster and 'Codeine Crazy' was one of them."
