Rich Homie Quan Blames Teleprompter for Messing Up Biggie’s Lyrics at 2016 VH1 Hip Hop Honors
Rich Homie Quan is digging himself a deeper hole for his mistake at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors show. The Atlanta rapper has received a lot of ridicule since he flubbed the lines to Biggie's part on "Get Money" at the event. But instead of taking the L and moving on, Quan is now blaming a teleprompter malfunction for his error.
"I knew it by heart," Quan told V103's Ryan Cameron before contradicting himself. "But then the words... I told 'em I didn't know all the words by heart, so the words were supposed to be in the teleprompter. When I looked at the teleprompter, they wasn't there."
Rich Homie Quan's statement may only lead to more criticism since he admits to not memorizing the words. The Atlanta native also defended himself by saying he grew up listening to OutKast, T.I. and Kilo Ali. Quan said the only Notorious B.I.G. song he really knew was "Juicy."
Yesterday, Rich Homie Quan made an apology for his mistake. Quan probably should have made it his final statement on the issue as his words seem less sincere now.
"I assure you that I never intended to disrespect Biggie Smalls," he wrote. "I have long respected his work and his contribution to the rap game. I greatly apologize not only to Biggie Smalls, but also to all of my fans and to New York. The city of New York has been nothing but good to me. I felt honored to stand on stage with artists I grew up listening to. Once on stage I had some technical difficulties and must admit I got nervous. I will forever be sorry to New York, my fans, Biggie Small, Lil Kim, and all the Hip Hop community for my performance. I hope you can accept my apology. To Lil Kim, Thank you for the opportunity."
The hip-hop community may not be cutting Rich Homie Quan any slack, but Biggie's widow is taking it in stride. Faith Evans said she did not feel any ill will towards the "Type of Way" rapper for his mistake.
