Early this morning, XXL prompted Twitter users to hit us with rap lyrics to express their life as part of the #PoemYourLife topic. The hashtag kicked off thanks to Brett "Fish" Anderson, who hosts South Africa's A Frikkin Hashtag game every Wednesday.

With responses ranging from bars from Kendrick Lamar's "Backseat Freestyle" and Bas' "My Nigga Just Made Bail," to Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back" and Big L's "Seven Minute Freestyle," XXL's Twitter followers proved they have a wide-ranging knowledge of the music and appreciation for lyrics.

When it comes to straight bars, we were happy to see someone choose Big L for their #PoemYourLife tweet. Twenty-one years ago, the late rapper and Jay Z stepped into the booth for one of the greatest freestyles of all time. Going uptown to partake in the classic WKCR program The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show, the duo ripped Miilkbone's "Keep It Real" instrumental. Before they were household names, the legendary MC's traded bars on the underground radio show and teamed up on "Da Graveyard" from L's groundbreaking Lifestylez ov da Poor and Dangerous.

Before they traveled to the Columbia University campus, the two had rapped on a Harlem block the previous night. “I think L and Jay had a competition amongst themselves and amongst their crews [and] it was never transparent or citywide-known," recalled Bob.

While Hov now raps about luxury brands most of his fan base will never be able to afford, he was once a fire spitting hungry MC hoping to get on. Check out the full freestyle below.
