Martin Shkreli Might Have Gotten His Hands on ‘Tha Carter V’ After Lil Wayne Left It in a Car the Rapper Sold
Near the end of 2016, "Pharma Bro" Martin Skhreli made hip-hop headlines yet again after acquiring what Lil Wayne's camp confirmed to be Tha Carter V, which has had the longest album delay in recent history, to the dismay of Weezy's fanbase. While talking to DJ Akademiks, Martin confirmed he obtained what he believed to be "a two-CD, authentic, Carter V final product mixed down." "Nobody knows what Tha Carter V is" he continued. "In fact, nobody can say until Lil Wayne says, ‘This is Tha Carter V. He’s controlling it.' If he says, ‘You know what? That two-CD thing that Martin has? I’m gonna add some stuff. I’m gonna take a track off and put in five more.' If he says that’s Tha Carter V, then that’s Tha Carter V, it’s his call. Not my call.”
Then in May, Shkreli played snippets of a couple songs off the project, including one presumably called "Mona Lisa" featuring Kendrick Lamar, which he called “the best song of the damn thing.” Since then, Wayne's lawyers and Universal Music Group have contacted the avid hip-hop fan's reps threatening to sue if he doesn't cease and desist, and with Weezy's loyal followers reaching their breaking point, The Daily Caller reporter Alex Pfeiffer has come forward to give an explanation to the question many have had all year: how the hell did Shkreli get the album in the first place?
Pfeiffer—who recently spoke with Pigeons and Planes—claims the villainous Shkreli shared the story with him at the top of the year. “Martin told me that Lil Wayne sold his Bugatti Veyron to some guy. The guy then discovered CDs and assorted personal belongings of Wayne in the car," he explained, providing photo evidence of his contact with Martin. "[The guy] called Wayne and asked if he wanted them back and Wayne said 'no.' One of these CDs turned out to be Tha Carter V and he sold it to Shkreli.” View the photo below.
According to Lil Twist, C5 is, indeed, "fucking crazy." "He got a lot of features on there. I can say he working with Mannie Fresh on the album again," Twist revealed in a recent interview. "So that’s gonna be good for the people.”
Hopefully the public will get a chance to hear it in full soon too.
