Lupe Fiasco Writes Open Letter on Drake’s Ghostwriting Allegations
Lupe Fiasco went to Instagram to post a two-part message addressing Meek Mill's recent allegations that Drake does not write his own raps, which he calls "The Haunting."
"Ghostwriting, or borrowing lines, or taking suggestions from the room has always been in rap and will always be in rap," he wrote. "It is nothing to go crazy over or be offended about unless you are someone who postures him or herself on the importance of authenticity and tries to portray that quality to your fans or the public at large."
The Chi-town rapper thinks rap is a form of expression that most artists take very seriously as they work on their craft. "The art form is kept alive and progressive in the activities of the tens of thousands of rappers around the world," Lupe wrote. Because of this, hip-hop "feels" it when an artist is accused of not penning his own lyrics. However, although ghostwriting may be regarded as a stigma, it's a part of the creative process for some rappers, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. According to Lupe, "rap is alive even if some of its greatest moments are written by ghost."
