The Break Presents: Lilbootycall
Lilbootycall can attest to the old adage "mother knows best." A native of San Antonio, the emerging artist was raised alongside an eclectic selection of tunes curated by his rock fan father and his mother, who put him on to hip-hop acts like Wiz Khalifa.
LBC flexed his DIY skills when it came time to explore music. The 22-year-old artist, who is preparing to drop his debut project later this spring, launched his career in 2017 after learning how to record on a laptop that his father picked up in a raffle. The initial result was his breakout hit “Sailor Moon,” a track named after the titular 1990s Japanese anime character. The song is now close to reaching 4 million YouTube views.
Lilbootycall has since unloaded several more records, including “Butterfly,” “First Date” and the recently premiered Cuco and Kwe$t-featured “777,” which has already pulled in 700,000 views for its video. The “Yugioh” artist, who now has a deal in place with Warner Bros. Records, also managed to bring in millions of plays on SoundCloud without the assistance of a record label or management team. Along with his hooks that are catchy and flow that is laid-back, “hella live instrumentation” is expected to appear throughout his soon-to-be released debut.

I grew up listening to: “Mike Jones, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Papa Roach, Linkin Park and Daddy Yankee.”
My style’s been compared to: “Nobody really. I feel like my style is brand new. I’ve never been compared to nobody.”
My standout records to date have been: “'Sailor Moon,' 'OJ in My Gucci Bag' and 'Yugioh.'”
My most slept-on song: “This song called 'Honey.'”
Most people don’t know: “I don’t know. That’s hard, because I just be putting myself out on the internet. I don’t really like holding back shit, because I don’t want to be seen as a fraud or some shit.”
I’m going to blow up because: “I’m real, I spit the truth and I’m true to myself. My sound is something different and brand new.”
