Kendrick Lamar Finally Hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart
Kendrick Lamar is atop the Billboard Hot 100. The Compton MC secured his first No. 1 song as a solo artist thanks to "Humble," the lead single from his new album DAMN. The track dethroned Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You," which had been No. 1 for 12 consecutive weeks.
"Humble" is Kendrick's first No. 1 record as a lead artist, but it is not his first No. 1 song. The MC previously achieved the honor with an appearance on Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood." The collaboration topped the chart for the week of June 6, 2015.
Kendrick's hit single has already become the most successful song of his career. The track debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100, which not only made it his highest charting song to date, but also the highest rap debut on the chart since Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” debuted at No. 2 in July 2010.
The ascent of "Humble" was certainly helped by the impressive sales of Kendrick's DAMN. The album sold 603,000 total units in its first week, besting Drake’s first-week sales for More Life (505,000).
Fans will have an opportunity to see Kendrick perform the No. 1 song in the country this summer on his DAMN. tour. The TDE rhymer will be joined by Travis Scott and D.R.A.M. on the tour, which is scheduled to begin in July. Check out all of the dates below.
