Kendrick Lamar Might Be In The N.W.A. Movie
Kendrick Lamar made his name on the back of two things: his considerable skill set and his place in the storied lineage of rappers from Compton. The latter was in full effect this morning (Feb. 4), when South Central legend Ice Cube took to Instagram to post a photo of Lamar on the set of Straight Outta Compton, the upcoming N.W.A. biopic.
Though the flick was ambiguous, it wouldn't be out of the question for Lamar to make a cameo appearance in the movie. XXL has reached out to representatives from both the film and Kendrick's camp. While neither has responded at press time, we'll be sure to keep you updated.
Ice Cube has generated considerable buzz for the project, being that it was he who debuted the film's trailer during a tour stop in Australia. Straight Outta Compton stars his son, Otis Jackson, Jr., playing Cube. In the trailer, he's the one who has the cathartic barb for a reporter who asks if the group's name stands for "No Whites Allowed." "Nah," the Ice Cube character response. "Niggas With Attitudes."
Straight Outta Compton is scheduled to be released this Aug. 14. Before it gained traction, the project was mired in development hell for nearly five years, bouncing from studio to studio with a litany of writers and directors being attached at various points.
