Kendrick Lamar is one of the fiercest lyricists the rap game has to offer, but he's still versatile enough to sound perfectly at home on a mainstream audio canvas. Yesterday (Oct. 11), the Compton rapper reminded everyone of that fact with a standout verse on Maroon 5's latest single, "Don't Wanna Know." You can hear the new track for yourself up top.

"Don't Wanna Know" is a perfectly relatable pop song that sees Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine crooning on about the loving he doesn't want to see his past lover getting from any of her new romantic partners. For his part, K. Dot sounds more concerned with reminding his ex what she's missing. On the mellow, but emotional new track the "Alright" rapper lets her know that after Kendrick Lamar, it's all down hill. "No more tryin' to make me jealous on your birthday/You know just how I made you better on your birthday, oh," he raps in the first part of his brief new verse. "Do he do you like this, do he woo you like this?/Do he lay it down for you, touch your poona like this," he continues.

While those aren't the sort of hard-hitting bars that won K. Dot the Lyricist of the Year award at the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards, they blend in nicely with Maroon 5's easy-going track and don't take the focus away from Levine's vocals. Kendrick is a beast, but he still knows how to play a complementary role.
