It's a rarity to find Kendrick Lamar showboating in the media or gallivanting from club to club, because even with such a dominant presence he remains low-key and humble. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Lamar reflected about Kanye West, one of Hip Hop's most controversial rappers, joining the Yeezus tour and the hospitable acts shown to him  and his TDE camp throughout the experience.

“It’s a different kind of thrill when an actual artist asks you, when Kanye asks you,” Lamar said. “Now I know he’s really interested in what I do."

President of Top Dawg Entertainment, Terrence Henderson aka Punch, admitted he was hesitant about Lamar doing the tour because their main focus was him getting back in the studio, but remember Kanye's team "wouldn't take no for an answer." In order to kill two birds with one stone, West's team provided Lamar with a studio but so he'd still be able to record music while being on tour. He even guaranteed Lamar a prominent spot on the tour.

“Kanye said he didn’t want to make it seem like we were just the opener,” Lamar remembered. “It was dope to have the actual headliner of the show want my show to be just as good as his.”

You can catch Kendrick Lamar and the rest of the TDE family at the upcoming Pitchfork Music Festival starting July 18.
