Scooter Braun, the man who discovered and now manages Justin Bieber, has been working with Kanye West in a consultant capacity for the past few months and has a newfound outlook on the controversial rap star, now claiming West is very misunderstood.

Braun recently sat down for an interview with Charlie Rose to talk about his recent business accomplishments. And when the topic of Yeezy came up he was more than willing to quell negative perceptions about the polarizing figure.

“I hope the world gets to see the guy that I’ve gotten to know,” he said. “A lot of people have an assumption that he might be selfish or arrogant. The guy who I’ve gotten to know—who I am learning to translate to others—is someone who literally got himself in financial trouble because he would give the shirt off his back to help someone.”

Braun went on to talk about how the rapper has extended his talents into many arenas, including fashion. While some think it has hurt West's music output, Scooter begs to differ.

“I think everything is art,” he added. “People say everything he’s doing is distracting from his music. Well, if you walk up to a masterpiece and you see one stroke, you might say ‘why are all these other strokes around? I love this stroke.’ But if you take a few steps back, you’ll see the whole picture. And I think with Kanye it’s about taking a couple steps back and seeing the whole landscape that makes him so brilliant at what he does.”
