The hell took him so long?

Today (Sept. 19), almost six years after Instagram was launched, Kanye West officially joined the social media platform, amassing some 787,000 followers in his first 12 hours on the website.

His first picture, as you can see above, is a still from the 1990 movie Total Recall, but perhaps (we pray) it's a teaser from an upcoming video. The only visuals we've gotten from The Life of Pablo so far were for "Wolves," which was basically a video advertisement for Balmain, the controversial "Famous," and Teyana Taylor's sizzling dance for the "Fade" video.

The nod to the future isn't the only forward-looking reference Kanye has made lately. He said his floating stage design for the Saint Pablo tour was inspired by movie director Ridley Scott, as well as Trent Reznor, Bono, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Daft Punk and Radiohead. Seeing how Scott directed the classic Bladerunner film, you can see where Kanye might have looked for inspiration.

We don't know what to expect from Kanye's IG. Maybe he made one just to check the comments and crowdsource his self-esteem. But we'll be watching closely.
