Just Blaze Explains Why he Never Dropped A Compilation Album
Just Blaze has a long list of hits that he’s created for other artists, but surprisingly the in-demand producer has yet to release his own solo album, like several beatmakers have done in the past. XXLMag.com recently chopped it up with the New Jersey-bred talent to find out why.
According to Blaze—who has most recently worked on Eminem’s new album, Recovery—there are several reasons he never did a compilation. “If you look at my body of work with Roc-A-Fella it kind of was that,” he explained. “A lot of them other producers who have done stuff like that, it’s no disrespect, but a lot of them don’t have that under their belt, where they can say, ‘I’ve done a hundred-plus records with that kind of artist.' And on top of that, I’m not a star. Those things are cool, niche products [but] they never really sell well on a large scale. “
“It’s one of those things where [I] put something out, maybe sell 100,000 or I focus my energy on doing these records with this label for Roc-A-Fella or whoever and probably make 10 times the amount of money that I might make otherwise,” he continued.
For those upset that the superproducer never released his own solo album, JB has his own advice. “I always tell people if they want that compilation, get your favorite 20 songs that I did, put em on a CD,” he joked. “There you go. “
Fans can hear Blaze's work on Recovery when it hits stores on June 21, one day earlier than expected. —Jesse Gissen
