Jhene Aiko “Never Call Me” Remix: YG Replaces Kurupt
As a native Los Angeleno, Jhené Aiko knows the healing power of g-funk. She perfectly deploys YG, a veteran of the form, on a new remix of her Trip single "Never Call Me," released on Thursday (Aug. 2).
YG's closing verse replaces the original track's outro by another genre legend, Kurupt. Jhené sings screw-you goodbyes to an apparent ex-lover accused of cheating. But where Kurupt wrapped the song with a comforting voicemail roasting the dude in question, YG taunts his target by detailing an imagined punishment.
"And when you call her, go call her/No bitch, that's out/You callin' lawyers, that's snitch shit, mm-mm, that's out/I'm a L.A. nigga, we do everything for the clout/So we ain't got no problem pullin' up suckin' yo' ass out/6-4 bounce, the flag hang out," he raps.
The song drops amid YG's promotional push for his new album Stay Dangerous, released Friday (Aug. 3) on the heels of his singles "Handgun" and "Big Bank." It's his third studio full-length.
Aiko released the original version of "Never Call Me" as a video in March featuring cameos by several L.A. rap veterans including Nipsey Hussle, Dom Kennedy and Casey Veggies. Her album Trip dropped last September.
