Vic Mensa is having one hell of a year. The 2014 XXL Freshman recently gave away a four-song EP entitled The Manuscript in preparation for his official debut album The Autobiography, scheduled for an official release on July 28. While promoting the album across the country, Vic recently stopped by Big Boy's Neighborhood to speak on the drop, and during the conversation he said JAY-Z advised him to take a certain diss line off the LP.

When asked about Jay's role in the making of The Autobiography, Vic Mensa stated, "Hov has been somebody to tell me when to pull back. So maybe that's songs I didn't need on the album and focusing on too much on one part of the story, or maybe let's calm it down a bit 'cause I can be kinda' aggressive," he admitted.

Vic then revealed he originally had dissed someone on a track off the album, but JAY-Z's words of wisdom made him reconsider including those lyrics. "There was a situation where I had a line that was kind of dissin' somebody else and it wasn't really necessary," says Vic, "and I just wanted it [on the song] because it was a good bar... [but] I took it off. I didn't want to take it off at all. I played it for [Jay] and he didn't really say to take it off—we was all having a conversation about it, me, him and [No I.D.] and everybody in the room—and then, later on, [Jay] hit me thinking about it, and he was like, 'You know, I think you should take [that line] off [the song]."

Though he remained adamant about the lyric at first, Jay told him, "Do you, but what you're doing won't work out in your favorite because your heart is not in it. The universe only works one way," and that made Vic reconsider. "That made me think, because my man managed the kid and I was dissin' another rapper really for no reason," Vic continued. "And that really just kinda shifted my perspective on it and I'm like, 'I don't need to be tearin' down another young black man regardless of if I like the music or not.'"

Though it's not confirmed, there's a good chance the bar in question was meant for Lil Yachty, who Vic dissed back in April while performing his single "OMG," which appears on both The Manuscript and his forthcoming project. During the set, the Chicago emcee rapped, "Then I signed to the Roc, now they say I'm Illuminati/Bitch I'm a tsunami, what the fuck is a Lil Yachty?" The lyrics appear to have been changed on the album version of "OMG" to "We threw up the pyramids, now they say we Illuminati/Fox fur Cavalli, fuck Bill O'Reilly."
