Iggy Azalea Explains Origins of Azealia Banks Beef
It’s been known for quite some time that there’s tension between Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea. Well, the latter rapstress tried to explain the origins of their beef during a recent interview, insinuating that Banks had a problem with her viral track for “Pussy.”
"It actually started at CMJ Music Festival back in September when she went on Twitter and said, 'I’m next level, I had a song about being a Barbie before Nicki Minaj had a song about being a Barbie,’” Azalea told personality Brooklyn Martino during a recent interview. “‘Here’s the link to my song. And f--- Iggy Azalea, I had a song called 'Pu--y' before she ever did. Here’s a link to my song. It’s better.’”
The tension only heightened when Azealia took shots at Iggy for Azalea making it onto the cover of XXL as one of the vaunted XXL 2012 Freshmen.
“Iggy Azalea on the XXL freshman list is all wrong,” Azealia tweeted back in April. “How can you endorse a white woman who called herself a 'runaway slave master'? Sorry guys. But I'm pro black girl. I'm not anti white girl, but I'm also not here for any1 outside of my culture trying to trivialize very serious aspects of it."
To that, Iggy responded with:
"You can't block my blessings!” Iggy tweeted right back. “Today I'm celebrating! Get with it or kick rocks! First female freshman. Ever. Period. Thanks world! I used to stick XXL on my bedroom door, now I'm on the cover. Life is great."
She sided with T.I.’s Grand Hustle imprint a short time later. Meanwhile, Azealia recently released her EP, “1991.”—Jakinder Singh
