Hip-Hop Responds to the Death of Bay Area DJ Pam The Funkstress

Well-known Bay Area DJ, Pam The Funkstress has died at the age of 51.

The beloved record-spinner, born Pam Warren, is known for her work as the DJ for The Coup. She also served as Prince's DJ for a time period. Individually, there was no fronting on her skills whatsoever, as she made a name for herself as one of the first and coldest women cut creators on the scene in the early 1990s.

The exact cause of her death is unclear, but according to the East Bay Times, she recently underwent an organ transplant, and was in critical condition as a result.

Pam's former employer, radio station, KBLX, confirmed the passing via a Facebook post. “The KBLX Family would like to send our love, prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Pam Warren, AKA Pam the Funkstress, The Turntable Queen, who passed away on Friday,” the post read. “She was one of the finest DJs on the planet, a true legend and she was family! Artists familiar with the Pam's work have been sending their condolences via social media. Oakland native MC Hammer took the time to pay his respects on Twitter. "Rest In Peace And Soar In Glory Pam The Funkstress 🙏🏿Town Love & Town Bizzness 👊🏾💯 Peaceful Journey 🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊," he posted. Others, such as Chuck D, Open Mike Eagle and Too $hort also paid homage.
