Today, Aug. 20, is the birthday of Govales, who now turns 29.

Formerly known as Mike Jaggerr, Govales first came into prominence as a member of the group Bassline. Some years later, he earned himself some critical acclaim when he dropped off his 2011 mixtape, The Eleventh Hour. With a knack for wordplay and some nimble flows, the Delaware-bred rhymer, who once upon a time spit on XXL's UStream, quickly made a name for himself.

After dropping off The Eleventh Hour, Govales kept up his momentum by collaborating with the likes of Big K.R.I.T. and touring alongside the rapper and Busta Rhymes. Taking a bit of break from the spotlight, Govales, then still known as Mike Jaggerr, he worked alongside Kaytranada and returned with a new sound when he dropped off G-Spot, a project focusing more on his vocals and trippy, pop-leaning tunes than straight-forward bars.

Continuing along on this path, Govales has since dropped off new tracks that showcase his artistic virtuosity after he'd gone from a straight spitter to being a dynamic vocalist. Recently, he dropped off his latest single, a Latin-inspired cut by the name of "Bonita," and it's obviously a big far-cry from the music he started out releasing. It's definitely dope, though, and it's that ability that's helped make him a respected artist. Salute.

Happy Birthday, Govales! Check out "Bonita" for yourself below.
