Canton, Ohio newcomer Fijimacintosh kicks off the year with Teenage Disillusionment, a new seven-song mixtape XXL premieres today.

The title of his new project is one the 17-year-old Fiji says was inspired by a youthful movie star that died way too soon.

"The title means being freed from false beliefs or illusions," Fiji tells XXL. "I chose it because I really look up to James Dean and the way he was a rebel and cultural icon. I felt like I could relate to him because he always vilified by society for being rebellious but as being someone that is similar to him, I knew of all of that was false information. I know the youth can feel the same way because we are always forced to adhere to the norm, and I never liked that. I want to be me and I know the youth at there feels the same way."

Themixtape features the likes of A1 Billionaire, Kid Trunks and Idk, with production duties handled by Deko, Jerome Keys and more.

"I feel like it's time my voice is heard by the world and I'm excited for my fans to hear it," Fiji said.

Following a 2018 that included a tour with Smooky Margielaa and various new songs and videos like "Demon Slayer," Fiji began teasing the new project at the top of 2019.

He first dropped off "I Had Nuthin" — an Idk-assisted track with production from OG Parker and Deko, but it's the Jermone Keys-produced "Suicide" that stands out as the song that means that most to Fiji.

"'Suicide' was mainly inspired by a time period in my life when I was in love with a girl," he offers. "I felt like the music I was making was splitting us apart and I felt like there was no middle ground for what I wanted to do. Later that night I went into the studio and let all my feelings out which is now 'Suicide.'"
