Fetty Wap Catches Heat for All Lives Matter Tweet, Quickly Apologizes

The country is in a present state of turmoil as the death of two black Americans in the span of two days at the hand of police officers preceded four Dallas cops shot and killed. Unity not division in this time of tragedy must prevail, and while the sanctity of all life is important, as President Barack Obama noted in a speech delivered Thursday (July 7), "When people say black lives matter, that doesn't mean blue lives don't matter. It just means all lives matter but right now, the big concern is the fact that the data shows black folks are more vulnerable to these kinds of incidents."

That distinction is important in emphasizing the peril that black Americans face on a daily basis, and it is the reason that many were upset when Fetty Wap tweeted "My kids are mixed... #AllLivesMatter" last night.

He has since deleted the tweet and issued an apology, writing, "I didn't mean to disrespect anyone... but I won't post any more on the subject I apologize," later adding, "I didn't fully understand the hashtag I [am] really sorry to those who I offended … on my life I would never disrespect nobody family I ain't better than no one I just was speakin for my kids not knowing the full meaning I can take criticism , but I'm man enough to apologize."
