Mack Wilds is probably best known for his role as Michael on HBO's The Wire, but he's delved into the music business via an EP he dropped in 2011, titled Remember Remember. He recently hooked up with Salaam Remi, who helmed his debut album New York: A Love Story, and brought in top-level New York producers such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock and Havoc from Mobb Deep to help him work on the project.

"We did the majority of the album in about a month," Remi says in the video above, which documents the making of the album through the eyes of the four all-star beatsmen. "We did the whole album pretty much in the month of April, May has been mixing, shooting videos, and here we are."

The album comes out on September 30, but has been streaming over at OkayPlayer for a week. "Salaam reached out to me and told me that he had a project with Mack," Premier explains. "He was telling me how he wanted to take it back to the '90s era when the DJs and the records that were coming out with all the hip-hop stuff, we also had singing over hip-hop beats and they would blend...He wanted to bring that style back, since a lot of people haven't done that in the last ten years."
