DinnerWithJohn Murder Suspect Held on $2 Million Bail
Kevin Alexander, who is suspected of stabbing Chicago rapper DinnerWithJohn to death last week, is currently being held on $2 million bail, the Chicago Sun Times reports.
According to the publication, the confrontation that ultimately ended with DinnerWithJohn's death began on a CTW Green Line train last Wednesday (Feb. 8). Apparently Alexander was the first to approach the 24-year-old rapper, and shortly afterwards the two began wrestling.
The initial scuffle reportedly lasted until the train stopped at the Clinton station and DinnerWithJohn--real name Walter Long Jr.--got off on the platform. It was at that point that the 23-year-old Alexander asked his friend for a knife and began following the rising rap star down to Clinton's 400 block before running up and stabbing him twice in the upper body.
DinnerWithJohn tried to run away from Alexander, but Alexander continued chasing him for half a block before fleeing the scene himself. The local police and paramedics found the rapper alongside the Metra train tracks. He was unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene with two stab wounds in his upper torso.
Assistant State Attorney Jamie Santini told the Chicago Sun Times that Alexander indicated to detectives that he had indeed stabbed DinnerWithJohn. The knife used in the attack has yet to be recovered.
Assistant Public Defender Sandra Parris argued for Alexander to be given a lenient bond, but Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil ordered that he be held on $2 million bond because the Pivot Gang founder was walking away from Alexander when he was attacked.
Fellow Chi-town rapper Saba, who is DinnerWithJohn's cousin, was understandably very shaken up by his death, writing on Twitter, “Bruh I can’t do this shit."
We can only hope that justice is eventually served.
