Desiigner put a new spin on a classic, just not a hip-hop one. Footage has emerged of the Brooklyn rapper doing his own rendition of The Temptations' memorable single "My Girl." Desiigner's familiarity with the record is not shocking since he is a fan of old soul. The 19-year-old artist revealed his love of old music during an interview with Pusha T.

“I like the old soul — you know how it is, Pusha, that old soul," Desiigner told his G.O.O.D. Music boss. "My grandfather, he went by the name Sidney 'Guitar Crusher' Selby; he formed that old soul, that old blues, that old rock that I put on my songs. He bluesed it out. And my pops, he was old-school, too; he played that old funk. I fell in love with that old style. You feel me?”

Desiigner has received a ton of support from his family during his rise in the rap game. The "Timmy Turner" creator spoke to XXL about his family's reaction to his inclusion in the 2016 Freshman class.

"My family been like, ‘Hey, you did it.’ My mom is happy, she smiles every time she sees me," he said. "There’s always been a smile but it’s more like, ‘My son, I knew you could do it.’ It’s been good vibes in my family. My pops, my sister, I always got them with me. It’s great right now. I be geekin’ out and all that. Inside I be ready to scream like a muthafucka, you feel me? I just embrace the moment, take it in, get ready to grind and stay humble."

People may doubt Desiigner's lasting power, but he clearly has a strong support system around him. The backing of his family and G.O.O.D. Music should help Desiigner a lot in the coming years.
